Indian opposition demands repeal of farm laws after protests

India's opposition Congress party on Thursday urged President Ram Nath Kovind to ensure that the three farm laws enacted in September are repealed and demanded that the government convene a special joint session of Parliament to withdraw these laws. Mounting attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that an "incompetent" man is running the system. One unidentified terrorist was killed in an ongoing encounter in Baramulla district of India's Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Kreeri in Baramulla district following information about the presence of terrorists in the area. The search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists fired at the forces, who retaliated. The encounter was still underway till the last reports came in. This comes a day after, three security personnel were injured in a grenade attack in the region's Ganderbal town. India's paramilitary, Central Reserve Police Force, was deployed in the region's Ganderbal town where the explosive was hurled, leaving the security personnel injured.
