Fish farming thriving in Kashmir, providing jobs

The valley is also known for its water springs and streams, mountains and natural beauty. These water springs and streams are also playing a vital role in generating jobs for the youths of the valley. Private fish farming has increased in the valley and people of the valley are getting jobs by doing trout fish farming. For the last few years fish farming has increased in the private sector at large scale and hundreds of people are directory or indirectly connected with fish culture. People of Kokernag specially youths are doing trout fish farming for their livelihood.  These people are getting assistance by Department of Fisheries. The department is providing all the assistance to people under Centre sponsored Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana.  Presently a large number of trout fish farms are functional in different districts including Srinagar, Ganderbal and Anantnag. People are getting attracted towards fish farming as it requires less little portion of land fresh water. Rest facilities have been given by the Fisheries Department to these people for free.  Because of good earning and assistance by the Fisheries Department, educated youths are also attracted towards the tout fish farming. These youths are also generating jobs for others through the fish farming.
